Embodying The Art

Embodying the art is an exploration in healing internalized oppression through community and connection. Using our visual art base, we will layer in sound art, movement art and somatic facilitation to guide the participants in a collaborative journey. There will be no passive audience, everyone will participate. There will be breaking of bread and deep connection opportunities.

The project is a BIPOC artistic collaboration for shifting out of internalized oppression in community with other BIPOC. Our painter plays a central role serving as inspiration for the evening of collaborative, improvisational visual and sound art.

Imagine.

You are in a warm, inviting space with about 40 other actively engaged people. There is a large canvas in the center of the room and an artist begins to paint. A sound artist is inspired by the color, or depth of stroke, or something else entirely. This sparks another sound artist to build on the first sounds. Movement art begins. The artist who is painting is taking in what they have inspired and is inspired themself. This moves the other 2 sound artists to add another layer. The artists stay tuned to each other and continue to be energized by each other. As the richness of this connection builds, our somatic facilitator curates a journey from within for you by drawing your focus to different aspects and layers in the art. They guide you to pay attention to different senses in your body in relation to the art you are experiencing and the interconnection forming among the artists.

You are connected and embodying the art.

As part of the experience, food arrives and you are guided to nourish your body while you choose a card. The cards contain prompts to help you continue to connect with other participants and share your experiences.
